CAMPING

For four days a year we are truly privileged to share one of the most inviting, beautiful and spacious festival campgrounds in Aotearoa with you.

AUM is a stunning camping holiday, with a music and arts festival thrown in. We are located about an hour from central Auckland, on South Head Peninsula near Helensville and Parakai.

Relax

As soon as you arrive on-site the outside world vanishes and the stress comes off. When you set foot on the ground, you will know you are home.

We have tons of tent-perfect camping space and a lush grass-covered site with gentle rolling hills. Native Kānuka tress provide shade and deer roam while we play.

AUM camping has three main zones: general camping, family camping, and extra quiet camping.

The whole campground is only a short walk to the central area. It is suitable for strollers or trolleys if you have children with you, and the site is on a sand base for quick draining in case of rain.

Hot showers and fresh drinking and washing water are included in your festival tickets.

NOTE: Camping and parking are included in all festival tickets. There’s no extra cost/add-on if you are sleeping in your vehicle or bringing a caravan.

Unlike many festivals, you can generally park near where you camp, with some exceptions. This saves a lot of walking over the course of the festival.

Backpacking

Our friendly, safe and diverse community has made AUM a popular stop for backpackers and international travellers. We have helpful people in our community who can help with transport from various locations through our carpooling page on Facebook. If you’re coming from overseas and have any questions about attending, please message us on Facebook.

Food and amenities

AUM Village has a wide range of food vendors and market stalls. Food vendors include vegetarian and vegan options. Vege-Pulse is a favourite, and Pasta e Basta is always popular. We also have smoothie and coffee vendors, and the Fitzroy Oasis sells water, softdrinks, mocktails and bags of ice.

Drinking water (filtered on-site) is free as are hot/cold showers. They’re near the entrance to AUM Village.

Sustainability

AUM was a leader in the waste-free festivals movement in New Zealand before it was trendy. From our beginnings decades ago we have had as part of our core ethos the aim to reduce waste for the good of the planet. We give a second life to materials we can source for the building of our festival infrastructure, and recycle wherever possible.

We have a LEAVE NO TRACE policy. AUM aspires to be a waste-free event.

We removed rubbish bins from the festival a few years ago and people gladly adapted to using reusable drink bottles and not creating unnecessary rubbish.

Please consider this when planning your visit. Ensure you bring rubbish bags/bins to manage your own waste and take it home. Bring reusable plates and utensils. Our food vendors will gladly serve your food using them if you ask.

We have lovely considerate, tidy guests and the team works hard to continuously improve our end.

Together we can reach the highest standards of sustainable waste management and environmental care. We are one big family after all.

Responsible Camping

AUM does not support the throw-away attitude to festivals.

Buy a good tent or, even better, a second hand one. Look after it. Well-maintained tents last for decades. It is your home away from home. Tents or rubbish left on site after the festival will be traced to the owners. They will be invoiced for removal of waste at a cost of $400 per site.

We mean business when it comes to waste.

What is MOOP? MOOP is matter-out-of-place.

Similar to burner culture (Burning Man, Kiwiburn) events, we hope you join us in not leaving anything behind that wasn’t there already, no matter how small.

Common festival MOOP includes tent pegs, cigarette buts and pieces that fall off of costumes.

Please keep tabs of everything you bring. And please consider MOOP by making or choosing outfits which don’t have plastic parts that are likely to shed (especially feathers and sequins etc)
